ALARM SYSTEM

Even though the property is in a low crime affected area, we recommend that you use the alarm for your complete peace of mind.

Here is a quick guide…

When leaving the premises and the property is empty, you will arm and disarm the property via the remote.  The BROWN button on the remote sets and disarms the alarm when you both arrive and leave the property.  Please ensure that all the sliding doors and windows are secured and locked before leaving the property.

To arm at night, simply either use the remote and press the BROWN button or punch in 0202 into one of the alarm keypads located around the property.  To disarm, just punch in the code again or press the BROWN button on the remote.

Should the alarm activate, ADT, the armed response will call and/or visit the property.  To cancel the response service, provide them with the password which is ‘holidays’

INTERCOM/ KEYPAD

There are 3 keypads in the house.  One at the main front entrance door, one in the upstairs master bedroom and one downstairs in the entertainment lounge. Should the phone ring, simply pick up the receiver and press the green phone icon if you wish to talk. If you press the blue key icon, the pedestrian gate will unlock. To end the call, press the red icon.

REFUSE AND RECYCLING

Please separate general waste (black bin liners) and recycling (clear bags).  Recycling does not need to be separated,  but does need to be clean – please place all clean bottles (plastic or glass), cans, tins, cardboard, paper and plastic in the clear bags and place next to the dustbin. The large black municipal bin is in the area outside the scullery door. Bin collection day is on a TUESDAY. Please ensure that the bin is put outside for collection.  Once the bin has been emptied, would you kindly bring it back onto the property once the refuse chaps have emptied it?

NB There is a separate small black bin for Nespresso pods next to the Nespresso machine which are returned to the store by us once it is full.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE AND CUSHIONS/UMBRELLAS

We want you to relax and enjoy your stay, but these items will need to be put away when not in use.  Kindly bring them inside when rain is forecast or if it is windy as the cushions may be blown away in windy conditions.  There is a storage room in the garage where the cushions can be stored.

TERRACE AWNING

The remote to open and retract the awning is in the top left drawer under the Nespresso machine. Although there is an automated retracting mechanism in place, should it become windy whilst you are on the property, please retract the awning and do not leave it extended if you are going out at all.

POOL AND GARDEN SERVICE

Pool Guru will come to the house twice a month to attend to the pool. You do not need to be at the property for either of these services.

TOWELS AND LINEN

*Beach/pool towels have been provided.  Please do not remove the bathroom towels from the property.  Please also be aware of staining on linen and towels, particularly from make-up and self- tanning lotions.

*NB: Damage to linen and towels, will be charged for.

SMOKING

Please note that smoking is NOT permitted inside the villa at all.  Should you wish to smoke outside however, please ensure that any cigarette ends are disposed of accordingly.

No doubt there will be other questions which will come up from time to time, but please don’t hesitate to contact me.  In the meanwhile, exhale, relax and enjoy your holiday.

SECURITY AND THE ALARM

Guardhouse telephone number: 021 790 2977

We currently have 3 guards who rotate their shifts:  Francis, Moses and Ricardo.

Even though the property is in a security estate with 24 hours guards, we would recommend that you use the alarm for your complete peace of mind.

At night, please press ‘stay’ for 2 seconds and then it will ask for the code which is ‘1414’.

Remember to switch the alarm off in the morning, before exiting the house.  The same code ‘1414’ must be entered.

There is a remote for setting the alarm when leaving the premises.

I will also run through the system with you, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

REFUSE AND RECYCLING

Please separate general waste and recycling. Black bin liners are to be used for general waste and the clear bags are to be used for recycling. Recycling does need to be separated, but items do need to be clean – please place all clean bottles (plastic or glass), cans, tins, cardboard, paper and plastic in the clear bags and place next to the dustbin.

Waste collection is every Thursday morning, so please ensure all rubbish is placed outside by the garage on Wednesday evening.  Derek, the Estate gardener, will take the bins to the main gate and return once they have been emptied.

WIFI

There are 3 different WIFI areas throughout the house:  Master bedroom, TV room & living area.  The password is the same through-out:  welcome@us

OUTDOOR FURNITURE AND CUSHIONS/UMBRELLAS

We want you to relax and enjoy your stay, but these items will need to be put away when not in use as the cushions are not waterproof.  Kindly bring them inside when rain is forecast or if it is windy as both the umbrella and cushions may be blown away in windy conditions.

POOL AND GARDEN SERVICE

Balo will be at the property every other Tuesday to look at after the garden and make sure your entertainment areas are clean and tidy for your use.

Pool Guru will at the house twice a month to attend to the pool.

You do not need to be at the property for either of these services.

DROUGHT

As I am sure you are aware, the Cape has been experiencing a very severe drought. Whilst the water restrictions have been eased, we do appeal to you to be ‘water aware’.  The current allowance is 105L per person per day which includes washing, flushing of toilets etc.  Therefore:-

1) Linen – we would encourage you to launder your bedlinen and towels on a need-to basis, rather than an automatic weekly basis.

2) Washing machine – when laundering your own clothes, please use the machine only once it has a full load or on eco-friendly cycles.

3) Swimming pool – please keep the cover on the pool when the pool isn’t in use to prevent any unnecessary loss.

TOWELS AND LINEN

*Beach/pool towels have been provided.  Please do not remove the bathroom towels from the property.  Please also be aware of staining on linen and towels, particularly from make-up and self- tanning lotions.

*NB: Damage to linen and towels, will be charged for.

No doubt there will be other questions which will come up from time to time, but please don’t hesitate to contact me.  In the meanwhile, exhale, relax and enjoy your holiday.

Claudia & The Close Realty Team

We have hit a snag. Apologies for the inconvenience. Please refresh.

You have found a piece of rock art with an image of San hunting ELAND. Please continue reading and enjoy some interesting facts:

    ELAND

“The Eland was the first animal that the San trickster deity, /Kaggen (the / indicates a clicking sound you make with your tongue on the roof of your mouth) created and it remained his favourite.

The Eland is the largest of the southern African antelope and is much desired for its meat and fat. The San say that all other animals are like servants to the Eland.

The Eland appears in four important San rituals and it is the most carefully depicted antelope in both rock paintings and engravings: Trance dance, boy’s first kill, girl’s puberty and marriage. It is believed that Eland fat contains a lot of potency and in a trance dance shamans aspire to possess Eland potency.”

    ringingrocks.wits.ac.za/subject/animals/eland/

“In one of their rituals young boys are told how to track an Eland and how the Eland will fall once shot with an arrow. The boys graduate to adulthood once they have killed their first large antelope, preferably an Eland. Once caught, the Eland is skinned and the fat from the animal’s throat and collarbone is made into a broth.
In the girls’ puberty rituals, a young girl is isolated in her hut at her first menstruation. The women of the tribe perform the Eland Bull Dance where they imitate the mating behavior of the Eland cows. A man will play the part of the Eland bull, usually with horns on his head. This ritual is said will keep the girl beautiful, free from hunger and thirst and peaceful.
Marriage amongst the San Bushmen is a private low key event. Just an agreement between two couples. Guests are said to be invited only in exceptional cases. As part of the marriage ritual, the man gives the fat from the Elands’ heart to the girls’ parents. At a later stage, the girl is anointed with Eland fat.”

THE GREAT STAR, !GAUNU, WHICH, SINGING, NAMED THE STARS.

!gaunu,[1] he was formerly a great Star; therefore, his name is !gaunu; while he feels that he was the one who formerly spoke (lit. “called”) the Stars’ names; while he feels that he is a great one. Therefore, he called the Stars’ names. Therefore, the Stars possess their names; while they feel that !gaunu was the one who called their names. He formerly sang, while he uttered the Stars’ names. He said “||Xwahai[2] to (some) Stars which are very small; they are those of which he made ||Xwhai; their small, fine ones are those which are ||Xwhai.

[1. My (paternal) grandfather, |Xugen-ddi, was the one who told me star’s stories.”

    2. The stars ||Xwahai |aiti and ||Xwhai-@pua were identified as “Altair” or “Alpha Aquilae”, and “Gamma Aquilae”, respectively, by the late Mr. George Maclear and Mr. Finlay of the Royal Observatory, on October 10, 1873, at Mowbray. ||Xwhai gwai was behind a tree and too low to be distinguished.]

Therefore, the porcupine, when these Stars have, sitting, turned back, he will not remain on the hunting ground; for, he knows that it is dawn, when ||Xwhai has, lying, turned back. He returns home; for, he is used to look at these Stars; they are those which he watches; while he feels that he knows that the dawn’s Stars they are.
